Volunteer Opportunities

Job Title: Employer Champion

Supervisor: Program Coordinator

Purpose: Tell your employer about Global Talent and make introductions so potential supporters can hear about our work and meet Job Seekers and alumni

Major Responsibilities: Organize and coordinate a meet and greet event with employers, employees, Global Talent staff, and Job Seekers (brown bag lunch, meeting with HR/Hiring Managers, speed mock interviews…)

Time Commitment: 2-3 hours per event

Qualifications: Work within a professional network of employers and employees; access to HR/Hiring Managers; coordination skills; organized; reliable and punctual

Job Title: Informational Interviewer

Supervisor: Job Coach

Purpose: Meet with Job Seekers one-on-one to help them learn, choose, and refine their career paths in the US; learn about the company you work for; learn more about the realities of working in a particular occupation; decide among different occupations or choose an occupational specialty; focus career goals; uncover professional strengths and weakness; and find different ways to prepare for a particular careers

Major Responsibilities: Provide Job Seekers with comprehensive information about the profession, your workplace, other companies, and related network opportunities

Time Commitment: 30 minutes per session

Qualifications: Excellent interpersonal communication skills; comprehensive knowledge of the profession; knowledge of the interviewing process; high level of patience and compassion; interest in meeting people from other cultures and countries

Job Title: LinkedIn Support

Supervisor: Employment Services Associate

Purpose: Review Job Seeker’s LinkedIn pages; help Job Seekers use their resume to build a solid profile and learn how to effectively use LinkedIn in their job search

Major Responsibilities: Guide and coach Job Seekers through the LinkedIn process from creating to completing an account, as well as how to network within the system

Time Commitment: 1-2 hours

Qualifications: Comprehensive knowledge of LinkedIn, strong writing skills, patience, and knowledge of professional networking

Job Title: Mock Interviewer

Supervisor: Job Coach

Purpose: To prepare Job Seekers for the interview process

Major Responsibilities: Provide interview questions specifically related to Job Seekers’ professions; provide follow-up job interview questions, tips, critiques, and feedback; ask behavioral questions; review candidates’ resume before an interview; outline the interview structure for Job Seeker

Time Commitment: 1-1 ½ hours per interview

Training Needed: Volunteer Coordinator will send out mock interview training video as well as a guide of sample questions that are most commonly used in the interviewing process

Qualifications: Excellent interpersonal communication skills; knowledge of the interviewing process; interested in learning about different industries and professions; high level of patience and compassion; interest in meeting people from other cultures and countries

Job Title: Success Stories Writer

Supervisor: Employment Services Associate

Purpose: Meet with Global Talent Job Seekers and alumni to help them record their stories and experiences with GTI via blog or vlog

Major Responsibilities: Accurately identify and record Job Seekers’ stories and experiences as outlined in the Success Stories guide

Time Commitment: 3-5 hours per blog/vlog

Qualifications: Strong writing skills; solid understanding of English language including grammar, punctuation, capitalization, spelling, and wording; interested in learning about different industries and professions; high level of patience and compassion; interest in meeting people from other cultures and countries
